For those of you that could not make the IBM Edge event, it was a great one! I can say that in general and from the perspective of DP&R. There were over 22 tracks associated with DP&R products during Edge, more than any other year. Tape was also a highlight for the main sessions and many of the break out sessions.
A special focus was on the announcement of both the TS4500 High density Enterprise tape Library announcement and on LTFS EE Bundle offering to make the ordering and implementation of LTFS EE easier for the customers. With the announcement of the Elastic Storage Model and Software Define Storage driving new use cases for Storage tape and DP&R products are integral to the success of this strategy. Tape will continue to be the lowest cost tier of storage providing near line storage of persistent data at up to 26x less than the TCO of disk only solutions. Combine this with flash and the future is now, Near instant transactional data that tiers to the lowest cost tier when it becomes persistent.
This excitement was not limited to DP&R presentations, all of storage acknowledged the need for Data protection and tape as a tier in the overall storage picture.
I have already started to see many posts of the Edge sessions on youtube for 2014. As they become available I encourage you to watch them. IBM continues to position storage and the DP&R portfolio for long term success.
