Danish energy company Vestas Wind Systems will use IBM
big data analytics software and powerful IBM systems to improve wind turbine
placement for optimal energy output. Turbine placement is a major challenge for
the renewable energy industry, and Vestas expects to accelerate the adoption of
wind energy internationally and expand its business into new markets by
overcoming this challenge.
The final solution cut the processing time from 3
weeks to 15 minutes and cut server energy consumption by 40%.
Vestas is addressing the issue of turbine placement by using IBM BigInsights
software and an IBM "Firestorm" supercomputer to analyze petabytes of
structured and unstructured data such as weather reports, moon and tidal
phases, geospatial and sensor data, satellite images, deforestation maps, and
weather modeling research to pinpoint installation. The analysis, which used to
take weeks, can now be done in less than one hour.

An event for European Consultants and Systems integrators
IBM Montpellier, France – March 29th - 30th
A private cloud allows you to offer your customers the benefits of cloud computing – self-service, automation, consolidation and metered usage – behind the safety of their firewall on their own virtual private network. Being able to build successful private clouds environments is key for your business. IBM offers multiple pathways for deploying private clouds, ranging from high-touch service engagements, which will take on the entire task of bringing cloud computing to a customer based on their specific needs, to integrated “quick start” solutions such as IBM Service Delivery Manager. This one-and-a-half day workshop will go into the details of these solutions. It is targeted specifically at Consultants & System Integrators.
You'll see: How our Cloud Computing technology strategy articulates how our offerings can help you build private Clouds with presentations of Workload Deployer but also TSAM (Tivoli Service automation Manager), ISDM (IBM Service Delivery Manager), TUAM (Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager) or Cast Iron how our storage portfolio integrates in the cloud computing environments how we implemented all these solutions in our Cloud Computing Data Center how to secure your Cloud Computing environments
