IBM To Make Its Cloud Services and
Software Open Sourced-based
IBM recently announced that
all of its cloud services and software will be based on an open cloud
architecture. This move will ensure that innovation in cloud computing is not
hampered by locking businesses into proprietary islands of insecure and
difficult-to-manage offerings. Without industry-wide open standards for cloud
computing, businesses will not be able to fully take advantage of the
opportunities associated with interconnected data, such as mobile computing and
As the first step, the
company today unveiled a new private cloud offering based on the open sourced
OpenStack software that significantly speeds and simplifies managing an
enterprise-grade cloud. Now, for the first time, businesses have a core
set of open source-based technologies to build enterprise-class cloud services
that can be ported across hybrid cloud environments.
it-giganten fik aftalen i hus i KMD-land. Det eksisterende leverancemarked på
driftsmiljøer minder for meget om vilkårene for at lease en bil.

IBM Drives Flash Technology Deeper into the Enterprise to Speed Big Data Analytics
IBM recently unveiled a strategic initiative to drive Flash technology further into the enterprise to help organizations better tackle the mounting challenges of Big Data.
Flash, a highly efficient re-writable memory, can speed the response times of information gathering in servers and storage systems from milliseconds to microseconds – orders of magnitude faster. Because it contains no moving parts, the technology is also more reliable, durable and more energy efficient than spinning hard drives.
Such benefits have led Flash to pervade the consumer electronics industry and be built into everything from cell phones to tablets. Today, as organizations are challenged by swelling data volumes, increasing demand for faster analytic insights, and rising data center energy costs, Flash is quickly becoming a key requirement to enable the Smarter Enterprise.

Company continues its
commitment to environmental sustainability and efficient IT infrastructure
IBM has recently been recognized for the second
consecutive year as the greenest company in the U.S., according to the Newsweek
2012 Green Rankings survey. A panel of independent judges ranked major
companies based on numerous criteria, including their environmental impact,
environmental management and sustainability disclosure. The survey is
regarded as one of the most comprehensive analyses of environmental leadership,
and IBM was one of 500 large U.S.
The report notes that IBM'S Smarter Planet products
and services help clients measure and reduce their resource consumption while
saving money. It points to a system
developed at the company's Zurich Research Lab, where water that cools a
supercomputer is used to warm nearby buildings.
"Environmental sustainability benefits
our clients, our company and the planet, and we are constantly striving for
continual improvement,” said Wayne Balta, IBM's Vice President of Corporate
Environmental Affairs and Product Safety. “We are grateful for this
recognition as it reflects the long term commitment of IBM and its people to
environmental leadership throughout the company's global business
