Mobile Experience is Critical to Business Success but Most CMOs and eCommerce Executives Struggle to Understand the Omnichannel Customer, Says IBM
A new IBM sponsored survey of business professionals finds that while chief marketing officers (CMOs) and ecommerce leaders recognize mobile as critical to their business objectives, two-thirds of those same professionals, indicate they don't have a strong understanding of the mobile user experience. With 89 percent of customers choosing to do business with a competitor, following a poor customer experience, businesses are turning to big data and digital analytics to better understand the omnichannel customer.
Mobile traffic continues to grow, with respondents attributing 19 percent of their total traffic to a mobile device. But businesses continue to struggle with providing a quality mobile experience, with 40 percent of companies agreeing that “delivering positive customer experiences is harder on mobile than the web”.
For many companies, their answer to creating a mobile presence is simply adapting an existing website as opposed to building a mobile experience from the ground up, with 70 percent of respondents describing their multichannel experience for customers as “okay” or “poor”. As such, the top three most serious mobile issues include bad navigation/poor “findabilty” screen-sizing issues, and form-filling problems.
IBM Unveils Industry’s First Cloud Suites for the Entire C-Suite
IBM recently unveiled an extensive array of cloud solutions designed for the C-suite to help executives accelerate innovation around customer experience to meet their business objectives in concert with their company's IT strategy. Among the newest cloud business offerings is a Big Data and social analytics solution that chief marketing officers (CMOs) can use to get an emotional reading on how customers view their brand.
Cloud computing is quickly becoming essential to C-suite executives. While technology decisions have been made historically by CIOs and IT department heads, the C-suite is adopting cloud computing because they see its ability to transform their front office processes -- marketing, procurement, supplier management, human resources and legal. In fact, industry analysts estimate that by 2017, CMOs will spend more on IT than CIOs.

IBM Expands Support for Linux on Power Systems Servers
IBM recently announced new initiatives to further support and speed up the adoption of the Linux operating system across the enterprise. These include two new Power Systems Linux Centers and plans to extend support for Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) technology to its Power Systems portfolio of server products.
New Power Systems Linux Centers in Austin and New York
In July, IBM will open its first North American IBM Power Systems Linux Centers -- one in Austin, Texas and the other in New York, NY. The centers will make it simpler for software developers to build and deploy new applications for big data, cloud, mobile and social business computing on open technology building blocks using Linux and the latest IBM POWER 7+ processor technology.

Freight and Transportation Giant Damco loads up IBM PureSystems to help meet Business Demands
IBM recently announced that Damco A/S, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller – Maersk, will replace their existing IT infrastructure with a datacenter built on IBM PureSystems. As part of the agreement, which is the largest single deployment of PureFlex Systems in the world, IBM will also provide outsourcing services. The new technology and services are designed to provide a solid foundation for Damco’s future growth and will also deliver the flexibility the company requires to meet new trends and business demands in the market.
Damco needed a new strategic and more simplified IT platform for their future IT operation and Damco needed to reduce IT costs without compromising a high level of stability and flexibility in their IT operation.
IBM will also take over the operation of Damco’s SAP systems and the operation of their distributed platforms including Intel, Linux and storage.

IBM Unveils Big Data, Cloud Enhancements Throughout Systems Portfolio
IBM recently announced enhancements across its systems portfolio that are designed to help organizations adopt cloud computing as they build toward Software Defined Environments (SDE).
Enhancements to IBM’s Smarter Storage line of Flash, disk and tape systems give clients faster access to business critical information and Big Data insights. New High Performance Computing solutions bring HPC capabilities to mainstream servers to help more clients crunch their ever-mounting volumes of data faster.
New capabilities added to the IBM PureSystems family expert integrated systems are designed to help clients reduce the security risks often faced when deploying cloud solutions, as well as enable quick recovery and restoration after disasters. A new mobile solution based on IBM Worklight server on PureSystems for both Power and x86 was created to accelerate clients’ access to millions of mobile users by allowing mobile applications to be deployed in as little as 30 minutes.

IBM and AT&T Equip Enterprises to Deliver High-Performing Mobile Applications
IBM and AT&T recently announced they are working together to help businesses develop more network-efficient mobile apps. The new integration of AT&T and IBM technology enables enterprises to conduct comprehensive testing and analysis of their apps' network and battery usage on mobile devices, and quickly make necessary changes; creating higher-quality, better performing mobile apps.
For the first time, IBM clients will be able to determine how their enterprise mobile app is performing on any wireless network, and then rapidly improve performance through development tools. The integration of AT&T’s Application Resource Optimizer (ARO) with IBM’s software development solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) expands the development capabilities of the IBM MobileFirst strategy.
“ARO tackles a fundamental coding challenge developers face today – finding and fixing performance and power bottlenecks that detract from a great user experience,” said Carlton Hill, vice president –Developer Services, AT&T. “ARO can help developers create apps that conserve battery life, load pages faster and consume network resources in a smarter way, all of which improve the customer experience.”
AT&T’s ARO is a free, carrier-agnostic, open source diagnostic tool that enables developers to analyze the performance of their apps, whether they be business or consumer apps. Launched in January 2012, ARO is now used by more than 1,500 developers, and users are seeing better results across the board, from a 35 percent reduction in excess data usage to apps that run up to 60 percent faster. Improving app performance and creating better customer experiences, ARO saved more than 500 terabytes of data in its first year.

IBM Helps Xiu.com Analyze Big Data to Grow Daily Sales 10 Times
IBM recently announced that Xiu.com, one of China’s leading online retailers of overseas luxury brands, grew its daily sales by 10 times using IBM software for Smarter Commerce to analyze Big Data, offering customers a personalized shopping experience and increased product selection.
IBM customized a solution for Xiu.com that provides the online retailer a centralized, real-time view of customer and product data from across the company. With the new platform, Xiu.com can analyze data to provide its customers with customized interactions based on their habits and preferences.

IBM Announces New Capabilities to Deliver Real-Time Analytics via the Cloud
IBM recently announced new IBM SmartCloud capabilities, including DB2 with BLU Acceleration that can result in as much as 25 times faster reporting and analytics, and SmartCloud availability for SAP's in-memory database, the SAP High Performance Analytics Appliance (SAP HANA).
New BLU Acceleration technology from IBM Research and Development labs adds innovative Dynamic In-memory analytics to DB2 database software on IBM SmartCloud to help companies and governments tackle Big Data by making it dramatically simpler, faster and more economical to analyze massive amounts of data. For example, Cognos Business Intelligence with Dynamic Cubes powered by DB2 with BLU acceleration delivers speed of thought analytics – with 18 times faster data loading and 14 times faster answers.
IBM also announced that its open IBM SmartCloud, built on decades of hosting experience, is now available for SAP HANA. The new offering includes a physical SAP HANA Appliance on IBM SmartCloud for SAP Applications, hosted on SmartCloud Enterprise+. In addition, a virtual SAP HANA Appliance is now available on IBM SmartCloud Enterprise (SCE) for early stage development and test.
IBM Study Points to CMO, Marketer of the Future, as Customer Experiences Remain Top Priority
IBM’s new survey of marketing professionals finds that chief marketing officers (CMOs) are differentiating their brands by crunching big data in real-time and automating personalized marketing campaigns. The price tag for failing to meet the needs of today's so-called "omni-channel shoppers" -- who frequent both online and in-store channels -- is $83 billion in lost sales in the U.S. each year due to poor and inconsistent customer experiences.
Other top findings from the survey point to leading marketers taking greater responsibility over customer service interactions as they become the official brand stewards company-wide. At the same time, leading marketers are capitalizing on big data to better personalize their marketing communications. They are looking beyond segments and demographics to provide the right offers, services and information at exactly the right moment in the customer relationship. Further, marketers are looking to use location-based services to target more digitally-savvy, on-the-move customers and deliver seamless, intuitive customer interactions.
The survey, which identified leading marketers based on their level of adoption of cross-channel technologies and their ability to proactively influence the customer experience, found that 39 percent of leading marketers are adjusting real-time offers based on customer wants, needs and preferences. In comparison, only 15 percent of remaining marketers surveyed do so. Seventy-one percent of leading marketers are delivering personalized messages in real-time through social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and review sites, while 62 percent of leading marketers are delivering those same personalized messages through the mobile channel.
