In my past life as an IT applications focused professional I remember when various companies I worked for would use a late Saturday or Sunday night time slot, like mid-night to one a.m., to take down various applications or the network for maintenance. There was no pressure from trading partners to exchange business transactions during those hours so any risk to the business was minimal at best. Wow, how things have changed.
Today, it’s tough to find companies who are Not impacted by this new era of a global economy we all operate in. That mid-night to one a.m. time slot now represents a business day somewhere in the world and the companies operating in those time zones expect their trading partner’s networks to accommodate the business transactions they need to send. In fact they may have service level agreements they are operating against that demand access to those networks.
Unfortunately, the ”edge” based technology most companies have deployed to operate their trading partner networks typically requires some downtime to perform maintenance, implying their trading partner facing network has to be brought down as well. So the receipt of business transactions from your trading partner community ceases for a certain amount of time. What if I tell you that no longer has to be the case?
If you utilize the AS2 or new AS4 communication protocols to exchange data with partners, IBM now offers a solution. We have separated the “Comms” from core B2B integration processing. This allows our customers to deploy an “Always on”, high availability, high performance trading partner network.
So the next time IT has to bring down your network for maintenance consider your alternatives. Check out this webcast https://ibm.biz/BdFDvV on how IBM can help.
