Had a great week at the SHARE Conference in Orlando. SHARE is all about mainframe hardware and software. We had a number of excellent Tivoli z/OS sessions. There were 4 NetView sessions: An introductory session on Monday by Larry Green on the new NetView V6.1. Couple of technical sessions and Thursday had a session with Dale Carter from Bank of America and Tom Howe from NetView Development on BofA usage of the new Canzlog capability in V6.1. Very well attended session for early Thursday morning. A number of attendees thought Canzlog would change how they dealt with their current logs going forward. It is a very well received new function in NetView V6.1. Tivoli presented on Monday at a full house Lunch and Learn on Problem Determination and Analysis. There was also an excellent session by Flora Tremantaon on the updated Tivoli Workload Scheduler 8.6 release that just came out. Focused on Workload Automation and Batch Modernization.
The SHARE Technical Exchange was open Monday and Tuesday nights and during Lunch on Wednesday. Tivoli was well represented with 6 peds of the 15 in the IBM area. There was also a working zEnterprise that a number of peds were directly connected to. The NetView, Application Management, Storage and Security peds were very busy the whole time. Lots of great conversations with many customers about the value of Tivoli software. SHARE is a great place to find out what is new for z/OS hardware and software. SHARE attendees understand the continuing importance and value of mainframe environments. The next SHARE is in Atlanta in March. Presentations are available on the SHARE website: http://share.confex.com/share/117/webprogram/start.html

IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS V8.6 is the premier enterprise workload automation product for System z® and end-to-end environments. It automates the planning, processing, and analysis of batch and event-based enterprise production workloads. This helps improve IT operation efficiency and reduce manual labor by maximizing throughput of work across the enterprise.
Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS is part of an integrated suite of scheduling products that enables systematic enterprise-wide workload processing for both batch and event-based (real-time) workloads across applications and platforms.
In an end-to-end solution, the distributed portion of the network can span over a multilevel topology of fault-tolerant agents (agents capable to continue scheduling even in the absence of the link to the Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS server).IBM® Tivoli® Workload Scheduler for z/OS® V8.6 delivers:

Attend this free technology update to learn how the latest mainframe technology can help you use an integrated management approach to running a more efficient, cost-effective data center.
Optimizing Your IT Infrastructure briefing
The barriers to running a more efficient data center are common to most enterprises. Slow or failed service delivery due to performance issues, for example, increases risks and costs in the form of lost business, lost customers and less market value. Reducing the complexity of your environment can help you fully
utilize assets, and become more responsive to changing business conditions and demands — whether it’s a move to cloud or any move toward greater
efficiency — thereby reducing costs. But if you’re looking for true alignment between IT operations and business priorities, it’s going to require that and more.
How can you ensure that the environment where your critical business applications run is always available for business? Can you extend the operational management of highly available environment to include application components that span platforms? Overcoming barriers associated with disparate systems, teams and information sources, can answer these questions in a way that is flexible, dynamic and systematic.
Join us for a one-day, complimentary seminar, Optimizing Your IT Infrastructure, and learn more about platform management synergies.
Seminar topics include:
Extending mainframe-like governance and qualities of service to specialized application optimizers and select blade servers
Managing Tivoli OMEGAMON® performance metrics for the new z/OS operating system
Using IBM Tivoli System Automation Application Manager to define your own automation policy for an application running in a simulated multi-cluster environment.
The role of Integrated Service Management on System z in cloud computing
Overall, these sessions will show you how IBM Tivoli’s OMEGAMON XE family of products and integrated solutions can save time, money and outages by understanding the performance of System z software products, automating management of them, and giving you an enterprise view of IT operations.

IT goals for monitoring mainframe environments may not appear to have changed much over the years – except that you need to respond much faster to unexpected events, handle huge volumes of events unheard of a decade ago, handle events proactively before they become issues and do this in environments that grow more complex every day. Fortunately, OMEGAMON® capabilities have continued evolving along with the modern data center.
Let’s explore your z/OS® systems with Tivoli® OMEGAMON XE on z/OS. You’ll see how it can be used to monitor and alert you to potential problems and help solve real issues in large z196 and z/OS systems. Join us for this complimentary teleconference to learn in detail about the capabilities in OMEGAMON XE for z/OS for monitoring your System z® environment. As a key component of IBM’s overall Integrated Service Management portfolio on System z, OMEGAMON XE is a performance and availability solution to that can analyze, manage and optimize operating systems, databases or other environments. It detects and recovers potential problems in essential system resources automatically and offers advanced reporting.
In this session, you’ll come away with details on how OMEGAMON XE can help:• Reduce the cost of administrating security on the mainframe by reducing complexity and using fewer staff resources
• Automate security policy enforcement to implement best practices and compliance requirements
• Analyze data to detect and respond rapidly to internal and external security events and threats
• Proactively handle events with automated closed-loop remediation that closes exposures
• Protect sensitive data and simplify the lifecycle management of encryption keys
• Consolidate cloud security management for zEnterprise™
