Our Collaboration Services Solutions blog series continues with another profile of another exceptional member of the Collaboration Services team. It is our pleasure to introduce Stuart McKay.
Stuart McKay is a Solution Architect with the IBM Toronto lab in Canada. In 1997 he joined Lotus Development Corporation when it was a subsidiary of IBM shortly prior to its full integration into the company. Prior to joining IBM, Stuart worked for an IBM Business Partner as a software developer. However, he joined IBM as a consultant with Collaboration Services and has been one ever since. His current roles and duties include working on customer implementations and customer solutions rather than product development. He enjoys the social aspect of our collaboration solutions and demonstrating to customers how they can make it work for their own business success.
Stuart was recognized last December as one of 20 IBM Lab Champions in Canada for 2011. He was surprised to receive the reward and appreciates the recognition, but he also feels it is the team's efforts that also attribute to our customers' success.
This IBM Lab Champion leads the technical sale of Connections. One of these customers was recently front and center at Lotusphere 2012, and even sent a letter of appreciation to Jeff Schick, IBM Vice President Social Software, for Collaboration Services' role during their recent deployment. So we are going to share with you a little of Stuart's story working with this customer.
This customer is one of 5 major banks that dominate in Canada. It is one of the largest banks in that country and has a growing presence in the United States. As is the case with some IBM customers, they also have non-IBM software investments in their IT infrastructure. They use our IBM WebSphere Portal technology but it is surrounded by non-IBM software. The customer was searching for the ability to perform a lot of key social software capabilities that Connections offered (such as communities, profiles, and personal file sharing, for example) that would not only integrate into their Portal environment, but also with their larger non-IBM software environment.
After a competitive process, the business was awarded to IBM in December 2010. The project was implemented the following year under an aggressive timeline. The unique technical challenge in this engagement involved creating an intranet using IBM WebSphere Portal as the personalized web content base that included social content provided by IBM Connections for its 80,000 employees. One of the highlights of the engagement was 50,000 of these employees in NA going live during Lotusphere 2012.
In evaluating the success of this deployment, Stuart credits the customer's foresight, enthusiasm, and commitment to the adoption of this blended IBM WebSphere Portal/IBM Connections solution across its entire enterprise. Stuart also wants to give shout-outs to the following IBMers, Eugene Louie, Bill Destache, Jay Boyd, for their critical contribution during this engagement.
To top it all off, here is what Sonja McLellan, Stuart's manager, has to say about the quality of Stuart's work:
"Stuart is exceptional. His ability to engage with customers at all levels and help them understand the value of IBM's message - both as software and as a services messages is really critical...He's been essential to all of those in helping really delivering that message and bridge the gap in understanding the technology and the services."
"He's so professional and customers really respect him for that. They know they are getting straight answers and straight talk but its delivered
so professionally that they are never offended..."
IBM Champion indeed. Congratulations, Stuart!
