Of course most of my time recently has revolved around preparing for the release of our new Maximo Space Management for Facilities offering. The announcement was made last week and can be seen here: ANNOUNCEMENT LETTER
This is a big step towards expanding IBM’s Maximo offerings from facilities maintenance to facilities management. Maximo Asset Management is being used around the world to manage buildings across industries including government, retail, universities and manufacturing to name just a few. With the increasing cost of occupancy due to real estate and energy prices we are seeing even more demand for solutions that will provide greater visibility and integrated business processes throughout an organization. The new Space Management solution will provide a visual representation of a building or anything else that can be captured in a CAD drawing and import into the solution. By having access to the floorplans including all of assets, people and work that is being performed, traditional work and asset management processes can be improved and new processes managed within the same suite of products. Maintaining the building and the location of people and assets within that space is critical to controlling costs and extending the life of a building. Traditional move processes can be managed as well as tracking locks and keys and gaining visibility into the infrastructure of a facility, ie Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Telco, and LAN lines. When you move an individual all of their assets, like phone, computer and furniture also need to be tracked and managed as part of the process.
There have been many inquiries around the new offering, and our Maximo community is ready to take on the next challenge with their implementations and add even greater more robust functionality to their current environments. This is an exciting time for Maximo in the Facilities space and I am looking forward to sharing our new solution at upcoming events worldwide. Look forward to seeing you there…until then…signing off.
