Maximo Client Challenge - are you up for the challenge?

The other week I had to face the decision of where to take my car for an oil change. Now for those of you who know me, my BMW is my baby! In addition, the reason that the oil change required some thought was because unlike the past, this was the first service post warranty, that I would actually have to pay for.........oh how I miss that all inclusive 4 year free maintenance!
The decision for synthetic oil was a no brainer, but then the decision of dealership vs "foreign car Specialist" came into play. One offered 5W/30 and the other 5W/40, and of course 1 cost more than the other. In the past I would have just surveyed friends to find the solution......but in today's world the internet offers the technology to chat with peers in the same boat. Opinions are always out there, the key then becomes finding credible eminence.
How does that relate to Maximo clients? Simple, when faced with decisions that are likely more important than an oil change, you want someone to talk to. If you are spending sizable investments in technology to improve productivity and ultimately provide superior asset management, you want to hear from more than your neighbor or your cousin. You want to know what peers in your industry are doing. You want to know if they are facing the same challenges as you are. And ultimately you want to know how they reached the decision they came to........was it all about the money or did their company have vision for an enterprise solution that could provide alerts for proactive maintenance which would ultimately reduce cost of ownership and address more than just the siloed assets that you are responsible for.
As most of you know, the best place to find Maximo clients to talk to is at our premier IBM Service Management event, Pulse. And this year is set to have 300 or more IBM clients presenting their stories, with approximately a third focused on Maximo. It is likely that Maximo could have filled all 300 slots because our clients are so willing to share their stories, but unfortunately a selection process is involved. The process is quite extensive and the steering committee tries to focus on getting just the right mix of clients from the key 11 industries: Aerospace & Defense, Chemicals & Petroleum, Energy & Utilities, Facilities, Financial Services, Life Sciences/Healthcare, Manufacturing/Automotive, Public Sector, Software/Technology, Telecommunications, and Travel & Transportation.
But why does this fabulous collaboration have to end at Pulse? Why can't we get more than 100, 200, 300, 1000 Maximo clients collaborating right here on all of the social media avenues there are? Why can't the IBM Asset Management community or LinkedIn group be where YOU go to vet the asset management decisions you are facing at your company?
So that is my challenge to you.........start the conversation and share the venues with your peers. Start engaging right here by commenting on this blog, and visiting our IBM Asset Management Community and LinkedIn group and beginning the discussions. Let's see if we can build a community that will help you to improve the success of your asset management solution. Because remember, even an oil change can warrant a decision process if you love your car!
