It’s always a pleasure to speak with other facilities professionals about the current initiatives and challenges they are facing. We saw many existing Maximo users that are in various stages of upgrading to the latest Maximo version 7.x and others who are looking to expand current capabilities into new areas. A popular topic for many people was related to energy and environmental initiatives that were underway using Maximo. More and more organizations both domestic and internationally are being tasked with looking at the sustainability of their assets including the buildings themselves. One customer in particular was describing how they are sequencing work orders through major equipment to identify and highlight potential energy savings. In another session on the topic of BIM (building information modeling) there were so many attendees that additional chairs were required so everyone could be seated.
I also spent some time talking with leaders of the local IFMA chapters and learning about the types of events they are promoting. As a fun aside, the competitiveness between the different chapters on the best lapel pin makes me smile. I collected quite a few and hesitate to name one as the best, I wouldn’t want to play favorites. Of course the business of best pin is minor compared to the good work that these groups are doing around the country to promote the exchange of ideas and education for their members.
