Today's blog entry comes from Terry Ray.
Each year, IDC Energy Insights publishes its top predictions for the Oil & Gas and Utilities industries. I like to review their predictions in order to gauge whether or not IBM’s Industry Solutions address customer needs. It certainly appears that way, especially based on one of their top predictions for the Oil & Gas industry in 2013 – the one focused on Environmental, Health and Safety.
IDC Energy Insights predicts that there will be a shift from Environmental, Health and Safety compliance to prevention and that this will require more sophisticated analytics. Without question, the relationship between Environmental, Health and Safety and equipment and asset reliability is increasing. We are seeing a number of companies inquiring about this and they are looking for solutions that connect Environmental, Health and Safety and Enterprise Asset Management.
As many of you know, IBM launched Maximo Health, Safety and Environment Manager about a year ago and several companies have already stepped forward and are realizing the benefits of having their Enterprise Asset Management and Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) applications use the same physical asset structure. Most HSE applications use asset structures that are different and unique. The key advantage of linking the applications is the ability to integrate safety, maintenance and operational related processes. Most HSE incidents originate from managing maintenance work.
Let us know how you and your company are addressing the shift from compliance to prevention and the HSE and EAM connection.
Until next time.
