Today's entry comes from Kim Woodbury.
Since the very successful Pulse 2010 meeting in February where I got to spend lots of time with customers discussing the future of facilities management with Maximo and getting a better understanding of the challenges they are currently facing, I’ve talked to more and more people expressing interest in the topic. Although I knew the smart building strategy we have been working on for the last year was the right one, I was overwhelmed by the amount of interest and consistency in the conversations I had over those 5 days around improving facilities maintenance, addressing energy consumption and environmental issues and better management of space. These are the foundations of the work being executed for the smarter buildings solution, and the level of interest has not waned. IBM’s relationship with JCI has brought these conversations to a new level as well, with their solutions around building automation systems and their experience with energy initiatives.
The next big event for the Maximo in the facilities space is the FMMUG (facilities management Maximo user group) which is next week in St. Petersburg Florida. There is a great agenda this year with the Department of Veterans Affairs providing the key note address, and an agenda full of other great speakers as well. The extended vendor hours is a change from what’s been done in the past, giving them all day to share their services and solutions with the Maximo community. Also included in the vendor area will be a Maximo demo area where attendees can get hands-on with the latest Maximo offerings and get personal demonstrations. Of course the work aspect will be great, but let’s not forget all the fun to be had too. The first annual FMMUG chairpersons golf challenge will be held on Sunday afternoon, followed by a beach-party social. I’m personally looking forward to all of the planned events and I hope to see you there.
The next few months will bring a great number of challenges and opportunities as the solutions from IBM continue to evolve and grow to help our customers run smarter buildings and I look forward to continuing to talk with users around the world on this topic.
Until next time….
