An integrated smarter buildings solution, simply stated, should integrate with your building management system(s) & monitor facilities/building assets in real-time, capturing data that can be used to improve energy efficiency, asset performance, and ultimately reduce operating costs and environmental impact. You really need to be able to collect such data into a central repository, which, in turn, will enable greater analytical and optimization capabilities that can help increase overall building management effectiveness, reliability and productivity. Let's review the benefits by throwing them into a list to make it a little easier on the eyes:

There's so much more to this already compelling smarter buildings story...it unfolds almost daily, and our next Facilities Friday blog, scheduled for June, will certainly add a few missing pieces to our puzzle... please, stay tuned :)On the space side, building owners and managers need to understand the usage of the buildings they operate, the occupancy level of the facility, the occupancy cost and the ability of the building space to serve the type of business conducted in the building. With occupancy often being one of an organization's largest costs, and new increased employee mobility trends, facilities managers are faced with an ongoing need to reduce costs around space and better utilize existing space. Having information such as floor plans and assets within a facility or building readily available can help space planners better manage their utilized and available or unused space.
Additionally, and equally important for both facilities and data center managers, the ability to inventory and trace cabling, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure provides users with access to critical information during maintenance activities that will minimize impact and down-times and help with moves, adds and changes. I think we can spend an entire blog on this, so let's do that somewhere down the line (just didn't want to leave it out of our "conversation" today.)
