This is a blog posting from Eric Luyer, Marketing Manager, Corporate Asset & Facilities Management, IBM Software Group, Tivoli, Industrial Manufacturing, including Life Sciences-Healthcare.
As I am based in The Netherlands, I do like to be in the south of France (like anyone else, I guess). It was this year for the 3rd time this year to be around at the Cote d’Azur, and this time for the Maximo Airport Summit. This event has been organized for the first time (in Europe), trying to replicate what we have done for the European Railway Industry Summit early June this year. This event was initiated by Ken Donnelly and I worked on the planning, content and logistics with Russ McKay, part of the Tiger Team in Europe - as he has lots of connections and experiences working with quite a few Airports in Europe.
The event was hosted on Tuesday, September 18 by Aéroport Nice Côte d'Azur, a solid IBM Maximo user and reference, who shared their Maximo story and provided a tour of their facilities at the airport. All attendees were picked up the following day at their hotels by a bus to travel to the IBM Forum in La Gaude for additional client presentations and a tour around the Industry Solution Center. In addition to the tours, there were nine (9) presentations about the use of Maximo in airports as well as about IBM's industry roadmap for the transportation and travel market.
We received very positive feedback from all of the attendees. The top rated presentation was from the Airport Authority organization in Portugal (ANA) which covered the use of Maximo for all Portugal Airports. All attendees praising the great presentations, ability to network and share issues, both the guided tours on the Airport and through the IBM solution center, the organization and nice facilities. Everyone agreed that we should have a similar Airport event in 2013.
One of the key characteristics of these events is that IBM Business Partners are co-sponsoring, covering all costs for this event. Through this approach it is possible to keep this a free-entrance event for customers and yet close involvement with selected Business Partners that are offering a “complementary solutions” for specific airport customers: think about mobility, luggage handling, facility management, 3rd party service management – all in conjunction with the Maximo software solution. Sponsoring Partners were: Schad (mobility), SigmaSeven (GIS integration), Syclo (mobility), Vetasi and EDI (US). EDI came over to do a well-received presentation around an actual topic: Safety Management Systems as it being implemented at Halifax Airport in Nova Scotia/Canada. The host for this event was Aéroport Nice Cote d’Azur.
As this was the first Maximo Airport summit in Europe, we were very happy
to see Maximo customers attending as: Aeroport de Paris, Aeroport Nice Cote
d'Azur, ANA - Portugal Airports, Copenhagen Airport, Cofely Services-GdFSuez,
Domodedovo Moscow Airport, Manchester Airport, Schiphol Amsterdam Airport and
VanderLande Industries (a major 3rd pary service provider supporting
more than 100 airports worldwide). It was an excellent cross section of clients throughout Europe and great
attendance for a new industry user group. And all customers requested to have
this event annually and two already volunteered to host next year and even in
It is very satisfying to hear positive results and
feedback from these kind of event. Clear and “down-to-earth” presentations that
add value for a specific audience is always appreciated by everyone. Another
advantage is that people are able to network and exchange experience on a
“peer-to-peer” level…that’s the major advantage for both customers and also
Thanks for reading and please look out for my next blog which will be about other Maximo User Group events that we are planning: October 23-24, the Life Sciences Maximo User Group meeting, hosted at Cordis (Johnson & Johnson) in Miami, FL and October 25 a special Healthcare customer meeting, hosted at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
