As the Senior Market Manager for Energy Efficiency and Green Solutions at IBM, I get the chance to talk to many clients about their efforts to better manage energy and environmental factors in their organizations. As the costs, regulatory, and stakeholder pressures around these issues are increasing tremendously, nearly every organization I speak with has some kind of energy or sustainability goals - from "reducing carbon footprint by 20% over the next 5 years" to "reducing energy consumption by 25%" to "your budget next year is flat, so figure out how to deal with it!". But when I start to dig into the ways in which the organizations are addressing these goals, I find that there are a number of basic challenges related to asset management that are proving to be roadblocks to these goals.
Here is a list of key questions to ask about your own organization:
Last week, Kim Woodbury and I delivered a presentation on a new product (Maximo for Energy Optimization) that helps to answer these questions and take control over these energy and environmental issues. I've included a link to this presentation below - it provides an overview and demonstration of the capabilities of the tool, as well as an introduction into how it can be extended for even more functionality.
Would love to hear your feedback on key questions that you're thinking about in your organizations or any questions on the presentation... let me know in the comments.
That's all for this week, I'll be back soon with more information on the latest energy efficiency and sustainability topics.
