Unable to start a service - Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure

Problem(Abstract)

A service that should have started automatically did not start. When trying to start it manually an error is thrown. The same error is also reflected in the Event Viewer.

Symptom

This could occur when attempting to start the TM1 Server, TM1 Admin Server or TM1ExcelService and the respective errors would look like:

Could not start the TM1 server - <service name> server on local computer
Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure

Could not start the TM1 Admin Server service on Local Computer
Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure

Could not start TM1 Excel Service on Local Computer
Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure


Resolving the problem

The password has likely been changed on the user being used to start the services. Go to the Services dialog, double-click on the affected service and go to the Log On tab to update the new password for the user. Click Apply > OK and then try starting the service again.
