ANS9418W File DSMNodeSet could not be acquired

Troubleshooting

Problem

"dsmigfs enablefailover" command generates an "ANS9418W - File DSMNodeSet could not be acquired at the moment" error in HSM multi-node clustered environments.

Symptom

The following error messages in the dsmerror.log may be seen when a node fails over, but after the "dsmmigfs enablefailover" command is run:

ANS9418W dsmmigfs: File DSMNodeSet could not be acquired at the moment. It may be locked, or the var filesystem may be full. Will try to acquire the SDR lock again in a few seconds.

These messages may also be seen:
ANS9592E A SOAP TCP connection error has happened!
ANS9590E The SOAP error information: cCommunicationPartner::Check failed, reason: Host not found

Environment

AIX 6 Release: 1
GPFS 3.2.1.7
TSM HSM 6.1.3.0 (2 node cluster)

Diagnosing The Problem

Issue the following command from the OS:

dsmmigfs sdrreset

If it shows the following, this TechNote applies:

TSM All HSM related locks in the SDR are now unlocked.

Resolving The Problem

1. Verify the portmap service is running.

2. Issue the following commands from each node:
rm /etc/adsm/SpaceMan/config/DSMNodeSet*
rm /etc/adsm/SpaceMan/config/DSMSDRVersion*
rm /etc/adsm/SpaceMan/config/instance
dsmmigfs SDRReset
dsmmigfs enablefailover
