IT00130: EXCESSIVE CRITICAL EVENTS FROM MONITORING SERVICES IN THE PUREAPPLICATION SYSTEM EVENT CONSOLE

Error description

• This APAR documents the work underway to address the message
  severity in context.  Thus reducing critical events to Warning
  severity in the PureApplication System's Event console for
  messages where the  event is critical to the resource but not
  critical from the context of the entire system. This should
  resolve the problem of these events being indicated as critical
  in the event console.
  These changes only change the severity on the PureApplication
  Event console.  In the System Monitoring console where there
  context still relates to the monitored resource (not the entire
  system), the severity will continue to display as critical,
  since these events indicate a situation that can be critical to
  the operating system (in the cloud).

Local fix

Problem summary

• Events received from system monitoring shared service are
  reported with severity in the context of the monitored
  resource; events on the PureApplication event console imply
  severity in the context of the entire system. When an event is
  triggered relative to a deployed virtual machine and is given a
  critical severity, this indicates that the process is critical.
  However, when this event reaches the PureApplication event
  console it implies that the entire system is in critical status.
  

Problem conclusion

• Events from the system monitoring services are now filtered to
  adjust the reported severity before being reported on the event
  console. Inbound events containing a CRITICAL status are mapped
  to WARNING and those with FATAL status are mapped to CRITICAL
  before they are sent to the PureApplication event console.
