  • When a virtual machine name is too long an exception is seen in
the system logs:

VMwareShimApplicationException:
 Error with VMware task: ERROR:
com.ibm.venture.vmware.sdk.vim25.InvalidName registering virtual
 machine [extremely long name...]
is invalid or exceeds the maximum number of characters
permitted.
