Security Bulletin

Summary

SSLv3 contains a vulnerability that has been referred to as the Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption (POODLE) attack. Supported versions of CICS Transaction Gateway for Mutliplatforms and CICS Transaction Gateway for Desktop Edition are affected by POODLE.

Vulnerability Details

CVE ID: CVE-2014-3566

DESCRIPTION: IBM CICS Transaction Gateway could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by a design error when using the SSLv3 protocol. Back level CICS TG provided JARs and resource adapters are allowed to connect to CICS TG using SSLv3. All supported versions of the CICS TG provided JARs and resource adapters connect to CICS TG using TLS.

At CICS TG V9.1 the https listener will allow SSLv3 connections. This vulnerability can be closed by configuring CICS TG to use releases of Java documented in the Java security bulletin:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21688165

Information on updated JREs, containing the Java fix for CVE-2014-3566, for use with CICS TG can be found in the following security bulletin:
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21692589

Affected Products and Versions

Supported versions of CICS TG for Mutliplatforms and CICS TG Desktop Edition

Workarounds and Mitigations

Upgrade unsupported back-level CICS TG client applications to use supported versions of the CICS TG provided JARs or resource adapters.

From CICS TG V9.0, TLSv1.2 connections can be required by specifying SP800-131A strict compliance using Java system property:
com.ibm.jsse2.sp800-131=strict

Specifying SP800-131A transition compliance requires TLSv1.0 connections:
com.ibm.jsse2.sp800-131=transition
