IBM Security Software for System z

Although the mainframe is extremely secure, a variety of attack vectors can result in a security breach. Most of these attack vectors exploit misconfigurations or are initiated by insiders with malicious intent (they count for a large percentage of overall breaches). The following factors are also of concern:

Historically, the risk of mainframe security breaches was low, but the recent increase in mainframe security connectivity means that mainframes need the same attention to security as any other device on the network. Too much trust in the mainframe and the scarcity of qualified mainframe security resources typically mean an underinvestment in mainframe security. A common, enterprise-wide approach to mainframe security is required to address these issues.

Although System z is the most securable commercial server available, it can be vulnerable if not configured and managed properly. Linux on System z exploits the strengths and reliability features of System z hardware while preserving the openness and stability of Linux.
