The fact that the IBM i operating system is one of the best, if not the best multi workload, multi user business platforms is undeniable. The value of IBM i and its’ architecture based on object security, job descriptions and robust job scheduling and work management, make it an ideal platform for running multi process workloads. Our customers run batch processing, web, and interactive application workloads concurrently and with high availability. Other platforms are not structured in such a way to run these types of workloads as efficiently and with job isolation/separation. With 450,000 systems worldwide, this mid size computing powerhouse is a highly available, dependable, “run the business” system that has been architected for applications that can be delivered in a hosted or SaaS environment. This paper will drill down into the capabilities that make IBM i well suited for SaaS and highlight some key solution providers who are using IBM i in a hosted environment.
