TBMR allows users to perform a bare machine recovery of their system direct from a Spectrum Protect (TSM) backup. Critical systems are protected from the consequences of physical damage, human error, or system failure. Users can recover their protected servers to any point in time provided by TSM as well as schedule simulated recoveries. TBMR is re-sold globally by IBM and its channel partners as the recommended system recovery solution for TSM. It’s currently available for Windows, Linux, Solaris and AIX operating systems.

  • Functional details

    TBMR is a bare metal restore software for Windows, Linux, Solaris and AIX systems which stores the machine hardware configuration on the network or together with the backup. The files required to run the operating system are stored in the TSM Server storage pools during normal TSM client backup.

    TBMR uses the TSM BA Client to integrate with the ITSM Server during the recovery. If the ITSM Client node fails due to a hard disk failure, after replacing the hard disk, TBMR uses the hardware configuration information to partition and format the hard disks and uses the ITSM BA client to restore the necessary files to build the operating system, from the ITSM Server storage pools.

    TBMR eliminates the need to manually rebuild and patch the operating system, install and configure applications and user information by recovering this data from the TSM storage pools using one set of procedures reducing both the administrators time during the build and requirement to update many pages of procedures.

    The Linux, Solaris and HP-UX TBMR are based on the rock solid technology used in CBMR for Windows, which is now used by many thousands of customers worldwide. Because TBMR uses the data already backed up by the TSM BA client, there is no need to perform an extra backup. This will save considerable amount of space, both within the disk and tape pools.
