  • + Business opportunity

Auditing enables a company to ensure the integrity, trustworthiness/reliability, traceability, and accountability of a company's record management process.

In order to implement auditing on Domino/Notes applications, software tools will have to be developed or acquired.

Auditing applications may be a regulatory requirement, but it can also help change the behavior of staff and provide alternate returns on investment. Computer hacking is often viewed as an external threat, whereas in reality, over 60% of the costs are attributed to internal threats. Auditing tools can assist companies in proactively monitoring key Domino applications and objects.

Three approaches to implementing auditing for Domino/Notes applications.

    • Developing in-house tools and software
    • Outsourcing development of software
    • Purchasing recognized, available software.

There are many reasons to implement auditing regardless of the size or scope of a company. Possible reasons to introduce auditing include: Regulatory needs (all transactions with an application must be recorded) Businesses that are regulated by 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, NASD must have auditing for key applications and correspondence that are defined in legislation as such and are subject to external audit by governing agencies. , General reporting needs (to see how applications are being used – may use this information to justify cost/benefit or another application) , Control standards (companies that want to monitor key applications to ensure only appropriate users are accessing appropriate applications) and standard operating procedures

  • + Return on investment

Quantifying the cost & time savings needed to locate auditing logs and provide to regulatory bodies can be done. Having the information at arm’s length can make the difference between a successful inspection & one that absorbs time and resources to respond to after an inspection.

Auditing tools with enhanced functionalities can also provide alerts on potentially damaging incidents. If an email can be generated that provides immediate details on a situation, the responses can be made quickly.

Auditing tools also serve as insurance. If there is critical information that must be tracked, what is the cost if information is accessed & used by others who should not have the access?
