Instructions for Clients and Business Partners

The IBM Academic Initiative System z team has been working with colleges and universities around the world to build a pipeline of graduates who have knowledge and skills on Enterprise System (mainframe) technologies. These talented students have posted their resumes on our IBM Student Opportunity System database. Students qualify to enter their resumes in the database by meeting one or more of the following criteria:

  • Received an IBM Certification or passed an IBM Mastery test (for example, IBM System z Entry level for z/OS System Programmer Mastery test)
  • Completed a college or university course using IBM technologies
  • Participated in a contest using an IBM technology (for example, IBM Master the Mainframe contest)
  • Used an IBM technology during an internship

You can search the IBM Student Opportunity System database to find talented students who have the skills you need by completing the following steps:

  1. Visit the Customer area of the IBM Student Opportunity System Web site.

Note: You will need an IBM ID to search the IBM Student Opportunity System database. If you do not already have one, register for one by selecting the provided link.

  2. Select Search for qualified students and provide your user ID and password.
  3. You can select criteria from many categories. However, our recommendation is to leave all of the categories in their default settings with these exceptions:
    • Preferred country — Select the appropriate country
    • Desired job category — Select Large Systems / Enterprise Application
    • Resume uploaded since — Select the month and year that is one year prior to the current date

For example, if the current date is in May of 2008, change the search date to May of 2007.

  4. Click Submit to display all of the resumes submitted specifically by mainframe students.

You can also use several filters to return fewer results, such as Country.

  5. Using the returned list of student names, their school names, skills, and graduation dates, click the student's name to view additional information and download the resume.
