Power Systems: AIX
|
|
|
 |

|
AIX is a UNIX operating system based on
open standards that delivers high levels of security, integration, flexibility and reliability —
all of these components are essential for meeting the demands of today's information technology environments.
AIX operates on IBM Power Systems, which is based on Power Architecture technology (System p).
There are many benefits in learning about AIX for both educational institutions and students.
AIX is very prevalent in today’s marketplace and students with AIX skills will expand their job and career
opportunities worldwide.

We have two primary methods for IBM Academic Initiative members to gain access to the AIX environment for teaching purposes.

1) Lease or purchase IBM Power Systems at a discount*
We offer special discounted lease and purchase options to educational institutions whose
faculty are members of the IBM Academic Initiative. Both options feature discounts on the hardware
and the operating system, plus some additional software is included at no additional cost. In addition,
we have thousands of IBM software products that IBM Academic
Initiative members can download, also at no cost.
For more information on the lease and purchase options, as well as the software available, download the
Educational Lease and Purchase Options document.
*This option is not available in all regions

2) Get remote access to shared Power Systems
At our Power System Connection Center, IBM Academic
Initiative members can get no-cost access to the latest technology for
teaching purposes — without the expense of your owning and maintining your own system.
The Connection Center is managed by Systems Education Association Limited (SEAL), who will work with you to understand your application requirements, set up your student profiles,
as well as handle other administrative responsibilities, so that you can spend your time teaching. When you access the environment
using the Power System Connection Center, it will look and feel just like your own system.
You can test the Connection Center environment using the SEAL guest connection.
When you link to the SEAL site, follow their directions to access the test environment.
