New Service Oriented Architecture courseware
Three new courses on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) are ready for Academic Initiative members to download and use in their classes. These courses cover SOA basics, the governance model, SOA solutions, patterns, standards, and advanced Web services topics.

New courseware: PHP for System i
This course features a workshop for porting existing PHP applications or developing new PHP applications that integrate with System i resources. It covers installation, administration, development, porting and troubleshooting. It includes presentations, demonstrations and hands-on labs.

India: New Tivoli contest for faculty and students
The Tivoli Reach Program 6 is sponsoring a contest that encourages both faculty and students to learn about Tivoli software for Storage Management and Security Management. The contest, which is open to faculty and students all across India, features special hands-on training sessions and offers exciting prizes after the completion of each stage.

Turkey: Bogazici University hosts Career Solutions day with SMB CEOs, IBM, and students
The Bogazi University Engineering Club held a Career Solutions day and discussion about IT technologies and careers. Top business CEOs attended along with more than a hundred students and academicians. IBM was represented by Jale Akyel, University Relations Team Leader Turkey.

Argentina: IBM receives Sadosky award for Top Contributor Enterprise
At "La Noche de los Sadosky" gala event, the Sadosky Award was given to the top contributors to the local Argentinean software industry during 2006. Thanks to the IBM Academic Initiative contributions in this area, IBM beat 13 other companies for Top Contributor Enterprise award.

New version of Java alphaWorks Garbage Collector tool
IBM Pattern Modeling and Analysis Tool for Java Garbage Collector (PMAT) 1.3 parses verbose GC trace, analyzes Java heap usage, and recommends key configurations based on pattern modeling of Java heap usage. Version 1.3 fixes a couple of defects and supports analysis of Java error messages.
