Baltics: Cooperation initiative between the University of Latvia and IBM
IBM Latvia and the University of Latvia have agreed to an initiative that promotes discussions and cooperation on seminars, educational programs, common research projects, and training of faculty and students. Courses of study include software architecture and SOA.

Serbia: IBM signs agreement with Faculty of Organizational Science
IBM has signed a 5-year agreement with the Faculty of Organizational Science. The agreement allows for research and education of faculty and students related to IBM products and technologies. IBM plans to organize courses and faculty training to begin implementing IBM curriculums into the next school year.

Africa: IBM launches its first-ever public ThinkPlace Challenge
IBM launched its first-ever public ThinkPlace Challenge, a three-week open forum designed to foster global collaboration on innovation opportunities and economic development issues facing the African continent. The top ideas generated through the ThinkPlace Challenge will help shape the agenda for IBM's upcoming Global Innovation Outlook focus on Africa, and provide longer-term input for IBM's World Development Initiative.

Germany: IBM awards Shared University Research (SUR) grants
Two German SUR awards have been won by Professor Gomber, head of the e-Finance-Lab at the University of Frankfurt and Professor Spath, Franunhofer IAO/University of Stuttgart. With the hardware provided, Professor Gomber will implement a Trading Lab in order to analyze and optimize e-transactions while Professor Spath will equip the banking showcase of "Bank & Future".

Faculty spotlight: Dr. Yannis Viniotis preparing for the future
Dr. Viniotis is preparing students for the 21st century by ensuring they have the latest technical skills. He helped start the ground-breaking Service Science, Management and Engineering (SSME) program at the State University of North Carolina. He is also presenting a series of courses on mainframe technology and service oriented architecture that can easily be adapted by other schools with an eye on the future.
