Part 1: Discover
The objective of this part is to get to know the System i and its capabilities. Through researching Web sites, you’ll learn about our marketplace, customers, technologies, and many other very interesting facts. Each team will complete an online quiz. Each team member will also register on iSociety, an online community for System i. All teams that complete Part 1 are then eligible to start Part 2 of the challenge. The first 150 teams that complete Part 1 will receive a t-shirt for each team member. In addition the first 5 teams to complete Part 1 correctly will also receive a $25 (USD) gift certificate for Amazon.com for each team member.
Part 2: Create and Explore
The objective of Part 2 is to give you a chance to sign on to our System i and complete several tasks. We’ll provide all of the information your team will need to get started. You’ll also use your creativity to design a poster, advertising System i's unique capabilities. The students on the top 5 winning teams for Part 2 will receive a 4GB Apple™ iPod Nano. All teams that complete Part 2 are eligible to begin Part 3 of the Challenge.
Part 3: Innovation Challenge
The final part is aimed at innovative applications – the team will develop a solution that runs on System i and submit code that accomplishes certain tasks. The team will also submit a brief paper providing information on how the solution works and what it does. The winning entries will be determined by a panel of expert judges from the COMMON user group.
Each member of the winning team of Part 3 will receive an expense paid trip to Redmond, Washington, USA, to visit Nintendo™ and to see the System i in action, a Nintendo™ Wii, a Zend PHP certification training course and Zend PHP certification exam voucher. Each student on each of the 2 winning teams for Part 3 will receive a Nintendo Wii.
