The Open Encounters games are located on various IBM islands and there are many ways of navigating.
Use the maps:
We have game maps in Second Life to help you navigate around the islands
and find the game locations. Move your cursor around the map and double-click the name of the game, accept the note card
and keep the landmark in your inventory as a handy way to get to a game.
Teleport:
Our Games page has teleport now buttons that take you to the map location of each game. Double-click
the red circle on the map, and you'll land near that game. Then look around in all directions to locate the games.
Look for a sign:
Each game is identified by an "Open Encounters of z Virtual Kind" sign, so keep your avatar eyes open.
When you find one these signs in world, touch it to begin the game.

Each game has reference material for you to read and then a set of multiple choice questions to answer.
Correct answers instantiate actions (such as swinging, jumping, or building something) that help you complete the game.
When you touch the game signs, instructions for playing the game and the educational references pop up on note cards.
Then, when you start playing the game, the Question & Answer note cards pop up.
Start a game:
- Right-click and touch the game sign.
(The note cards pop up in the upper right corner.)
Locate the educational resources:
- In Second Life, click the go to page button on a note card.
(This opens a browser window and takes you directly to the educational resource for that game.)
- In your first life, use the Games page,
where we have arranged the available games and their references alphabetically by technologies.
Some educational resources are password-protected and require an IBM ID. Make certain you have completed the requirement
to get an IBM ID and password.

Don’t limit yourself to just these educational resources. Further your learning by exploring other
IBM islands inside Second Life, as well as other IBM Web sites.
Not all IBM islands are enabled for public access. We recommend you try these:
- SOA Adventure Island
- IBM 8
- Almaden Island
Explore IBM islands:
- Open your map and search for part of the island name. For example: "IBM", "SOA", or "Almaden".
- Click on an island name.
- Or, click the teleport now button to go directly to that location.
