Using collaborative research principles can greatly increase the chance of success and speed the time from an idea
to research. We recognize that there are many types of research models across the spectrum and the Summit team has addressed
two of them.
The resulting principles complement other industry-university initiatives and accelerate collaborative research. Use these
principles in their entirety or mix and match their concepts to meet your team's objectives.
We encourage their use by everyone.

these principles guide software-related collaborations between industry and universities under circumstances where the participants
intend the results to be made part of a royalty-free public commons.

Free participant use principles (PDF, 177KB)
Addressed by the Summit team in June 2007,
these principles (also referred to as FPU) guide research collaborations between industry and universities where the results
of the research can be used commercially and academically for the researchers involved and are available to others under
reasonable terms. |
Other models
The spectrum includes many more types of research collaborations that allow for multiple research models
and entry points to discuss the type of research being performed and expected results. Additional principles
may be developed to address other models as needs arise.
