Dr. Romar is interested in how technology can help him and his students interact and he strives to introduce
and integrate commercial, market-leading collaboration software into his business courses.
In November, he organized the first Collaboration Jam on campus with two other professors and 22 MBA students.
The faculty and students used Lotus Sametime 7.5 and Lotus QuickPlace to communicate and exchange ideas in a dynamic
and interactive environment. They created real-time discussion groups about the banking, health care and telco industries
based upon issues and information provided to them by IBM. At the end of the session the groups presented their analyses
and conclusions.
Results:
From the success of this event, the College of Management has decided to use Lotus QuickPlace this spring to
enable students to jam on business cases, collaborate in teams, and share a content repository for their data.
Dr. Romar will use this leading edge collaboration application to augment and enhance his managerial ethics course,
implementing it for online case discussions, as a repository for course material and information,
and to help him structure and manage group activities.
Benefits:
Dr. Romar sees the educational value: "Quick Place is an excellent tool to increase student
engagement in the course, encourage class participation, monitor student progress, and manage many
aspects of course delivery."
The students love this tool, too, and now they can add this marketable skill to their resumes. |
