Enterprise-class databases from Oracle, Sybase & Microsoft® are feature-rich, but are expensive & complex to install, maintain & operate due to licensing & associated fees, but also because of the large hardware configurations required to achieve high performance.
The expense & difficulty associated with these enterprise-caliber solutions have caused many enterprises to consider open source databases, but these are not without their drawbacks. While open source databases may be low or no cost to deploy, they lack key features & do not allow a painless migration from the most popular databases, these solutions require custom workarounds & significant development investments. Migration is difficult & the inability to support mission-critical applications severely limits the usefulness of these databases.

- Lock-Free Internal Data Structures: All indexes, queues & other internal ANTs data structures are fully concurrent, with no lock waiting ever.
- Main Memory Optimization: Supporting 64GB memories on Intel and AMD Opteron processors & 1TB on SPARC processors, ANTs optimizes data structures & tables for low latency main-memory data access. Unlike “in memory” databases, ANTs lets tables grow as large as your disk volumes while achieving massive throughput.
