There is no capability for potential students to test their connection without a monitored environment. However, the local machine requirements are listed below.
The VPN connection to the remote lab environment is provided by the Nortel Contivity Client. The requirements to run this client are:
For VPN over a LAN connection:
- Windows XP, 2000, 98/95
- TCP/IP installed and running over a LAN adapter
- A working high speed network connection
To establish a Client connection to your corporate network:
- Create a Contivity VPN Connection profile. (Information on obtaining the client and profile configuration provided after registration and test date provided prior to the actual class.)
- Use the Contivity VPN Connection profile to connect to our Remote Lab Environment.
WARNING! You can only have one VPN client installed on a machine at a time. If you currently have a different VPN client installed you will need to uninstall your existing client and reboot before attempting to install the Nortel VPN client. Failure to do so may cause problems with all your network interfaces requiring you to recover your system configuration.
If you are running Windows 95, 98 or 2000, you will need to install the Remote Desktop Connection client.
You can download the client from Microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/rdclientdl.asp
Another consideration is the ability to exit your corporate firewall. In order for VPN traffic to work in both directions, the following ports must be opened: UDP 500, UDP7500, and TCP 50.
