Role
The business analyst is focused on the customer’s needs, as well as on the development organization’s ability to fill those needs with a software solution. The business analyst often is a line-of-business departmental expert who defines and tests business rules and policies.

The business analyst identifies customer and business needs, captures requirements and creates business use cases. The analyst then models the business use cases using IBM WebSphere Business Modeler and looks for areas of optimization, especially those that can be automated by software. Once the application has been constructed by the application developers, the business analyst may use IBM WebSphere Business Monitor to monitor the performance and cost of the business process to identify opportunities for improvements and further optimizations.

Assumptions
It is assumed that the individual following this roadmap has basic skills in the following areas:

  • Identification of management’s business objectives and goals and the alignment of these with the business strategies
  • Mapping the alignment of the critical success factors with the business strategies
  • Development of "to-be" IT and business process strategy, and mapping "as-is" and "to-be" business processes in alignment with the business process strategy
  • Maintaining data about the business processes associated with the in-scope application portfolio
  • Assisting in the collection, storage, and reporting of measurement data

Objectives
After completing this training, students should be able to:

  • Use the WebSphere Business Modeler tool to model business processes
  • Use simulation analysis to measure results of business processes and see where improvements to the business processes can be made
  • Apply business modeling skills
