The solution architect works with the business analyst to analyze a particular business process or business requirement, and is responsible for the design and coordination of a new solution, application, or component based on the specified functional and non-functional business requirements. The solution architect transforms the process design provided by the business analyst into a platform-independent Unified Modeling Language (UML) model using IBM Rational Software Architect. The solution architect further refines the model using design patterns, performing model transformations and using reusable assets in the design.  These models are provided to the rest of the development team, who construct the system according to the specification.
