Q: How does onsite training work?
A: Training can consist of one course or a training program incorporating multiple courses. Each course can be delivered as a standard offering or customized by deleting or reorganizing selected content. You can even combine components from a number of classes together. IBM will bring everything to your location on a schedule that meets your needs.
Q: What's the typical class size?
A: No matter what size group you need to train, we'll develop a solution that fits your needs perfectly. We typically provide onsite training for both small (3-7) and large (8-14) groups. But, we can usually accommodate additional students for a small fee per person. The fee will vary based on the class duration and complexity.
Q: How does IBM prepare its instructors?
A: Our instructors have demonstrated a mastery of the subject matter they are teaching. Many are certified in their chosen product or technology area. In addition, they must go through a rigorous process to hone their teaching skills. This process includes supervised practice teaching.
Q: How much lab time will we get?
A: This varies by class, but many classes have labs that cover about 50% of the course time.
Q: Does the instructor set up the class hardware?
A: As a general rule, no. If IBM provides hardware for a class, it will be preloaded with the appropriate software. We ask each customer to unpack the equipment, set it up in the classroom and power it on. By having you check out the equipment a few days prior to a class, we can replace any damaged equipment in time.
Q: What is instructor mentoring and how does it work?
A: Instructor mentoring is when you use an IBM instructor as an on-the-job coach. Through personalized instruction, the mentor helps your staff apply concepts and knowledge to actual business problems so they can better perform their jobs independently. Instructor mentoring engagements are flexible. They can be one or multi-days in length, before or after an onsite training event, independent of an onsite training event, and customized to your needs.
