Where appropriate these applications should make use of the principles of object-oriented (OO) design and development. The application developer should also make effective use of an integrated development environment (IDE) such as IBM Rational Application Developer or Eclipse.
Assumptions
It is assumed that the individual following this roadmap has skills in the following areas:
- Experience with the Java programming language
- Experience with Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE)
- Knowledge of Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE)
- Basic knowledge of Extensible Markup Language (XML)
AND/OR - Knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts
- Experience with the C# or Visual Basic programming language
- Experience with the Microsoft .NET framework
- Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
AND/OR - Have a basic understanding of the Enterprise COBOL programming language
- Be able to build a COBOL copybook
- Be able to compile, link, and execute a COBOL program
Objectives
After completing this training, students should be able to:
- Describe, at a high level, the process of building a business rule application with IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules V7.0 and/or Rules for .NET V7.0 and/or Rules for COBOL V7.0
- Design business rule projects
- Design the object models upon which rules will be written or executed
- Orchestrate how business rule artifacts in rule projects will be executed
- Implement the required business rule artifacts to implement business policies
- Search or query for business rule artifacts (JRules only)
- Analyze the consistency and completeness of business rule projects (JRules only)
- Debug the implemented business logic (JRules only)
- Enable business users to manage the business rule artifacts
- Integrate developed rule artifacts within an enterprise environment, for their execution (JRules and Rules for .NET only)
- Generate COBOL code for rule execution
- Build efficient and easy-to-maintain business rule client applications
- Customize rule authoring
- Set up the environment so that less technical business users can satisfactorily work (JRules and Rules for .NET only)
- Control how business rule artifacts are executed to match specific needs
- Share rules in COBOL and Java projects (Rules for COBOL only)
- Generate COBOL code for rule execution (Rules for COBOL only)
- Apply best practices for rule governance
