This course has been developed for those of you who are new to both z/OS and DB2. DB2 for z/OS is a so called z/OS subsystem. Due to this fact, it is important for you to gain at least basic knowledge not only about DB2, but also about the hosting operating system. With this course you'll gain both as a starting point.

This is a basic course for system programmers, operators, and other technical personnel who are to learn about z/OS and DB2 on z/OS.
Skills taught
After completing this course you should be able to complete the firsts tasks as DB2 for z/OS system programmers, Database Administrators (DBAs) or operators. In detail learn how to:
- Explore z/OS as hosting operating system for DB2 for z/OS
- Navigate under Time Sharing Option (TSO) using Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF)
- Create, delete, copy, change data sets
- Acquire basic Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM) Knowledge
- Outline Job Control Language (JCL) basics
- Define usage of System Display and Search Facility (SDSF)
- Explore basic concepts of DB2 for z/OS
- Acquire basic knowledge of language SQL
- Define what the DB2 Catalog is, what it is used for and how you can access it using SQL statements
- High level introduction of DB2 utilities such as LOAD, COPY, QUIESCE, REORG, RECOVER TS, REPORT
- Handle job and utility failures
- Interpret DB2 messages and codes.

- Interpret the output of DB2 commands
- List basics about the DB2 address spaces and Internal Resource Lock Manager (IRLM).
- Explain what DB2 threads are and how to deal with it
