Get an introduction to Extensible Markup Language (XML) and related technologies. Gain conceptual and practical knowledge of the concepts you need when working with XML. Build basic skills to use XML and its related technologies in the context of building e-business applications. Also, explore the features and benefits of IBM's premiere development tool, WebSphere Application Developer, in the hands-on labs to create the XML based applications. Reinforce the lecture material with hands-on lab exercises.
Beginning with all classes starting on April 28, 2003 the hands-on classroom lab exercises will no longer use WebSphere Studio Application Developer Version 4. They will be using WebSphere Studio Application Developer Version 5.
Audience
Enterprise application architects, designers, developers, content modelers and creators, and other Information Technology (IT) individuals.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Internet technologies is required. Experience using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is helpful, but not required.

- Describe the use of a Document Type Definition (DTD) with an XML document

- Describe the use of XML namespaces in the management of the symbol space of an XML document
- Declare and use XML namespaces in an XML document
- Describe the use of an XML Path Language (XPath) with an XML document
- Create XPath expressions that locate specific information in an XML instance
- Describe the use of XSL in the processing of XML documents
- Create an XSL transform and use it to transform an XML document into some other kind of document
