NOTE: THIS IS A SELF-PACED COURSE WITH A FIXED START AND END DATE.

You will be given access to the course material, and to a DataPower appliance in order to perform the labs, for a period of 4 days from the designated start date. At the end of the class period, your access will be removed. No extensions to the access period are possible.

This self-paced course does not involve a live instructor.

Please note that your enrollment will be confirmed shortly after you enroll, but you will not be sent the details on how to access the course and the lab environment until approximately 3 days before the designated class start date.

Self-paced virtual classroom (SPVC) courses provide the same deep technical content as WebSphere Education classroom courses, but allow you to learn on your own schedule. You can stop and start a self-paced virtual class as needed during the 4-day access period.

There is no live instructor for this course, so it may not be appropriate for students who require the guidance of a live instructor.

Course overview:

This self-paced course combines streaming lecture with a hands-on lab exercise to teach participants how to perform binary transformations.

A DataPower service is frequently used to transform an incoming message to a different structure. The messages are commonly SOAP, XML, or HTML in structure; these structures are easily manipulated in a style sheet. But when working with earlier or mainframe applications, the structures are different and might not even be textual. WebSphere Transformation Extender Design studio can be used to create mappings for the more complex binary transformations, in addition to the simpler XML transformations. Design Studio can produce a DPA file, which is a mapping file specific to the DataPower environment.

This course describes the important parts of WebSphere Transformation Extender Design Studio that relate to a DataPower execution. The lecture also covers how to use the DPA file within a DataPower service to perform binary transformations on messages that are transiting the service. The lab exercise uses a pre-built DPA file to convert an incoming XML message to an output COBOL COPYBOOK structure.
