NOTE: THIS IS AN ONLINE SELF-PACED VIRTUAL COURSE. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THIS COURSE.

Self-paced virtual classroom (SPVC) courses provide the same deep technical content as WebSphere Education classroom courses, but allow you to learn on your own schedule. You can stop and start a self-paced virtual class as needed during the 4-day access period.

There is no live instructor for this course, so it may not be appropriate for you if you require the guidance of a live instructor.

Course overview:

This self-paced course combines streaming lecture with a hands-on lab exercise to introduce the DataPower tooling that supports the use of context variables and extensions. These variables and extensions can communicate information across processing steps, possibly even across different rules in the same transaction.

WebSphere DataPower SOA Appliances can use Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) style sheets to perform message transformation and to customize existing functionality. Messages are typically transformed to support different application schemas, while the DataPower extension functions enable access to DataPower functionality from a style sheet. Configuration is performed using actions from a service policy that can also be implemented by writing a style sheet using the DataPower extension functions.

In the course lecture, you learn how to develop a sample service web service policy that supports dynamic routing based on an Extensible Markup Language (XML) document and an XSL Transformation (XSLT) style sheet. Both the XML document and the XSLT style sheet are obtained from an external HTTP server, which then routes the content to a SOAP-based web service back end. The course lecture also covers how to develop a Multi-Protocol Gateway that incorporates conditional flow control on an advanced processing action.

The course concludes with a hands-on machine exercise in which you create two DataPower services that support the two sample scenarios developed in the lectures. One service includes dynamic routing based on XSLT, and the other service includes conditional processing based on advanced action flow control using context variables.
