Installation and Administration of IBM WebSphere Portal 7.0 on Linux (WPL91)

This comprehensive course combines informative lectures and discussions with relevant activities and labs so that you can administer WebSphere Portal 7.0

In the first half of the course, you will practice common day-to-day administration tasks on WebSphere Portal Server 7.0, including portlet installation, security configuration, and Portal site management.  In the second half of the course, the focus will shift to installation and configuration of WebSphere Portal 7.0. Configuration will include the database used by Portal, federated user registries, and clustering for scalability and fault tolerance.

Note: This course was updated from IBM WebSphere 6.1: Administration 1 (WP711) and IBM WebSphere 6.1: Administration 2 (WP721).

Audience

This in-depth intermediate course is beneficial for both experienced system administrators who are new to IBM  WebSphere Portal and to WebSphere Portal system administrators (prior to WS Portal 6.1) who want to update their WebSphere Portal administration skills. In this course, system administrators new to WebSphere Portal Administration will learn the basic and advanced administration management of IBM WebSphere Portal, and to Portal concepts. In addition, WebSphere Portal system administrators who need to refresh their WebSphere Portal administration skills will quickly gain experience in installing, configuring, and managing WebSphere Portal in day-to-day operations.

Machine requirements

After you enroll in this course, you will be directed to a link to help you prepare your system to access the course.

The computer you use to access the labs should meet the following requirements:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or higher
  • Minimum 512 MB of memory
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer V7 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox V3 or higher
  • Citrix ICA Client installed
  • Access to the Internet

If you are running Windows 2000, ensure that your Internet Explorer uses 128-bit encryption. You can verify this by opening Internet Explorer and selecting Help - About Internet Explorer. If 128-bit is not listed, download and install the code from Microsoft.

The following network configurations will not work with these labs:

  • Dialup connections
  • Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) scripts loaded on the local machine (using file:// under Use automatic configuration script in Internet Explorer's Local Area Network (LAN) Settings); use a PAC script on a Web server (using http://) instead
  • Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD) only configurations; contact your location's network administrator about alternative configurations

The following configurations may or may not work with these labs, but are not supported:

  • Citrix Clients under the following operating systems:
    • Windows 95
    • Linux
    • UNIX
    • Macintosh
    • Web browsers other than Internet Explorer V7 or higher and Firefox V3 or higher
