Learn the installation, configuration and operation of the Hardware Management Console (HMC) for PowerSystem servers. Begin with an overview of HMC functions, followed by detailed information on how to install a new HMC, configure network settings and HMC user profiles, create a connection to a managed system, and upgrade an existing HMC. Explore the HMC's Graphical User Interface (GUI) to manage an eServer i5 system. Through online presentations and quizzes, develop the basic skills for backing up HMC and managed system configuration data, performing HMC and microcode software maintenance, and creating logical partitions (LPAR). Additionally, learn how to configure the HMC as a Service Focal Point, enable the service call home function, add or replace hardware, and work with Capacity on Demand.

Remarks
This class is scheduled for 2 days, however the material presented along with the labs should take less than two full days. Your instructor will decide based on the topics and labs covered each day when the day should end. The estimated time is six hours each day. Every effort will be made to maintain this schedule, but if internet or lab access problems arise, two eight hour days are available to cover all labs and course material.
Please look for email notes within two weeks of the class date in which you are enrolled. It is extremely important that you provide an email address that you have access to in the location you intend to attend the class and that you are checking prior to the class.
Save these notes until after the class is complete. They will provide information on testing and how to contact IBM personnel for help connecting. You should have one note from IBM Virtual Learning, which provides information and instructions on how to test a connection to Elluminate. Elluminate is used as the virtual classroom to present the material. You will also get an email from Instructor Help with instructions on how to test an eLab connection. The eLab connection is a Citrix connection used for access to IBM systems to complete lab exercises. The Citrix connection you are provided will get you through the IBM firewall. This will require you to load a Citrix Client on your PC. Please ensure you are allowed to do this.
Please note it is important to follow the instructions in these notes for testing when you receive them to ensure that you can connect on class day to both Elluminate and eLab. This should give you time to resolve any problems that may show up. The test should be done from the location you plan to take the class. If you can not resolve the connection problems from a particular location, try another location. Some firewalls might not allow the connection traffic without intervention from your security officer. Some students elect to take their class from home or an alternate location to avoid connection problems and provide an interruption free classroom environment.
