Audience
Experienced iSeries RPG IV programmers who want to learn how to use SQL as a means to perform Input/Output (I/O) to access DB2 UDB for iSeries in their applications.
Prerequisites
You should complete:
- Accessing the DB2 UDB for iSeries Database Using SQL (S6137) or (OL370)
- System i Application Programming Facilities Workshop (S6149) or (OL490)
or have equivalent skills to:
- Use SQL Data Definition Language (DDL) to describe tables and views
- Use SQL UPDATE, INSERT, ALTER and DELETE statements to modify SQL tables
- Use the SQL SELECT statement to extract data from tables and views
- Code SQL queries that include column and scalar functions
- Code SQL queries that include inner and outer joins
- Navigate iSeries menus and use iSeries commands
- Use Program Development Manager (PDM) and Source Entry Utility (SEU) to code programs
Experience coding applications in the RPG IV language is strongly recommended, but an RPG III background is acceptable. Experienced RPG III (RPG/400) programmers should complete:

- Use the Integrated Language Environment (ILE) Source Debugger
- Code RPG programs on the iSeries
RPG IV language features are taught in this course. If you have no knowledge of RPG IV, you may get less value from this course than an experienced RPG IV programmer. Experienced programmers who do not know RPG should complete:
