NOTE: THIS IS AN ONLINE SELF-PACED VIRTUAL COURSE. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THIS COURSE.
Self-paced virtual courses provide the same deep technical content as our classroom courses, but allow you to learn on your own schedule. You can stop and start a Self-Paced Virtual class as needed during the 60-day access period.
There is no live instructor for this course, so it may not be appropriate for students who require the guidance of a live instructor. In such cases, students should consider the alternative versions of this course:
- Classroom delivery: Capturing and Authoring Business Rules in IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules BRMS V7.1 (WB308)
- Instructor-led online delivery: Capturing and Authoring Business Rules in IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules BRMS V7.1 (VB308)
Course Overview:
This 5-day instructor-led course introduces business analysts to IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules Business Rule Management System (BRMS), and teaches the concepts and skills necessary to capture, author, validate, and manage business rules using IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules BRMS V7.1.
Through instructor-led presentations, product demonstrations, and hands-on lab exercises, students learn the core features of WebSphere ILOG JRules BRMS V7.1, and how to work collaboratively with business policy experts and development teams. Students receive intensive training in modeling business rule vocabulary, rule discovery, and rule authoring. A realistic case study is used throughout the course to demonstrate the principles and best practices for discovering, analyzing, and authoring business rules.
The course begins with an overview of JRules BRMS and the modeling concepts related to business rule applications. Students work with Unified Modeling Notation (UML) to document use cases and draw class diagrams. Students also work with real-life business models, use cases, and business policies during the rule discovery and analysis labs.
After learning how to transform business policy into rules, students get an in-depth look at rule authoring using Rule Team Server. Some rule authoring exercises are also performed in Rule Studio. Students work with rules that are based on an actual business model, enabling them to experience some of the questions and issues that arise when users author rules that reflect complex business decisions and models. Students also closely examine the business case study and its underlying business object model (BOM) to understand how the BOM is reflected in the Rule Team Server user interface. The rule authoring exercises build upon each other and demonstrate how the BOM and user interface relate to one another when rules are authored.
Hands-on exercises with Decision Validation Services enable students to run tests and validate rule changes directly in Rule Team Server. Students use the Rule Team Server supporting features that simplify rule maintenance, including project versioning, baselines, project analysis, reports, and permission management for sharing rules between multiple users. They also learn how to identify governance issues and use JRules BRMS features to support rule governance.
