Kursbeskrivning: Connect Information Server to SAP BW (DataStage Pack for SAP BW) (Web-Based)

This course was built using the following software versions, however, the concepts in the course are version-agnostic and apply beyond this particular environment:

• Information Server and DataStage Versions 8.5.0.1 running on Redhat Enterprise Linux rel 5. The server software is running on a 2 core machine.
• Clients installed on Windows 7
• Information Server Pack for SAP BW version 4.3.2.1
• Information Server Pack for SAP R/3 version 6.5.0.1

Again, most concepts discussed extend beyond this particular version and are designed to give you core, version-agnostic, reference, and tutorial knowledge).

In a simulation, this FlexLearning course lets you 'drive' the UIs in which you will see how to set up a connection between Information Server and SAP BW and then perform various loads and extracts including a load in which you will create a "table" over on the BW side from within DataStage Designer (The entire simulation will be within your IE 5+ browser).

This course begins by discussing the concepts involved including problems that industry faces and how the integration of Information Server/DataStage and SAP BW can help solve them. We also talk about the PACKs in general. We will briefly talk about the DataStage Pack for SAP R/3. And then we'll cover the BW PACK in particular. We briefly cover the architecture, the functionality, and the benefits of this PACK.

In a Guided Tour Product Simulation you will do the following:

• Set up a connection between Information Server and SAP BW
• Perform a load of data into SAP BW
• Perform an extract of data from BW

Here, you will begin by launching the DataStage Administrator for SAP and learn how to connect Information Server with SAP by looking at some existing configurations.

Once the systems are communicating, you will build a load job from scratch. You will learn that there are some things that will already need to have been configured, over on the SAP side, before you begin. In this simulation, they have been set up by our fictitious BW Administrator. You will create a load job that creates what is known as a Characteristic (or table) over on the BW side, but do so from within the DataStage Designer! After you load some data into BW, you will then build up an extract job that pulls that same data back out of BW and thus validates that it was, in fact, loaded in the first place.

Note: This is a self-paced online course in which the Guided Tour Product Simulation requires no installations: Everything is through your IE 5.0+ browser. The browser-based product simulation lets you 'learn-by-doing' in a case-study scenario in which you solve a 'real-life' business problem using InfoSphere products.
