NOTE: After you receive confirmation that you are enrolled, you will be sent further instructions to access your course material and remote labs. You will then have a 30 day window in which to complete your course. Within this 30 days, the self-paced format gives you the opportunity to complete the course at your convenience, at any location, and at your own pace. The course is available 24 hours a day.
If the course requires a remote lab system, the lab system access is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. When you are not using the elab system, ensure that you suspend your elab to maximize your hours available to use the elab system.
NO EXTENSIONS FOR THIS COURSE WILL BE GRANTED.
There is no live instructor for this course, so it may not be appropriate for students who require the guidance of a live instructor.
This six-hour self-paced virtual class teaches students the skills they need to configure and monitor virtual systems deployed to private cloud environments using the IBM WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance.
The WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance is the first hardware appliance of its kind. Preloaded with WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition, it provides access to WebSphere Application Server virtual images and patterns so that application environments can be quickly and easily created, and securely deployed and managed in a private cloud.
The course begins by providing students with an introduction to the key concepts of clouds and cloud computing, as well as its technical and business benefits and challenges. Students learn how the WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance can help organizations handle the business opportunities that cloud computing enables for the enterprise. Students also learn how the WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance and WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition address provisioning virtual systems into cloud environments.
After the introductory units, the course explains how to deploy, configure, and manage cloud environments with the WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance. Students learn how to create, deploy, and monitor virtual systems created from predefined patterns, and how to complete the initial physical and firmware configurations for the CloudBurst Appliance. Students also learn about the networking and storage requirements for implementing a VMware ESX cloud environment used by the WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance, and how to configure cloud resources such as hypervisors and IP groups. Additionally, students learn resource management procedures for both virtual systems and the WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance.
Product demonstrations provided throughout the course reinforce the content in the streaming lectures, and give students additional insight into configuring and monitoring cloud resources and virtual systems. Topics covered by the demonstrations include configuring the WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance and cloud resources, creating virtual systems, managing resources, and performing recovery procedures. Students learn how to configure product licenses on the appliance and configure SNMP from the console. Students also learn how to create multi-image patterns from disparate image parts, manage dynamic virtual machines from the console, and customize, clone, and deploy an Intelligent Management Pack enabled pattern.
