This course provides a comprehensive set of skills needed to operate, and customize the ITNCM Compliance solution for ensuring network device configurations meet compliance standards for security and business policy needs. This software package builds on the ITNCM configuration management solution. This course provides you a structured set of topics that cover all aspects of the solution and how it supports network compliance needs. This training provides you access to virtualized servers and network devices and extensive exercises to demonstrate how the solution can develop compliance policies, execute them against the network configurations, and automate the remediation of non-compliant devices. Class work includes enabling and accessing this software and its integration into the configuration management solution, development of customized policies and remedial actions, and the execution of these policies against actual configurations to determine their compliance. Discussions will include compliance theory and how to take business ideals and codify them into actual policies that ensure those ideals are implement in device configurations.

You should have:

• Basic level of Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager - Base is needed to understand how that software works with network devices to retrieve their configurations, model them, and apply templates against the configurations to change them.
• Basic Unix/Linux operating skills needed for installation and maintenance activities used in the class. Ability to create users and groups, create and change permissions on directories, utilize FTP, and experience with text editor such as 'vi'
• Simple understanding of regular expressions as it pertains to finding strings inside text documents.
• Basic understanding of network device configuration process needed to understand what ITNCM is attempting to apply policy against.
• Basic understanding of database technology is needed to help understand how data is stored and to understand scalability and data availability and resiliency.

Exposure to the IBM Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager solution is necessary to understand how data is retrieved from network, how SmartModel© technology is implemented, how the command set template tools allow automated changes to devices, and how the IBM Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager security model effects operations. At a minimum, you should have attended the IBM Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager V6.1 Basic User Workshop (ZW035) course or have equivalent experience.

It is strongly recommended that you attend IBM Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager 6.3 Administration and Implementation (TN550) course to obtain the most value from this course.
