The purpose of the class is to discuss installation, configuration, and the administration of the DS5000 family of storage subsystems, Storage Area Network (SAN) in this hands-on course, emphasizing the use of IBM DS Storage Manager.

Students should exit the course with skills to configure a DS5000 storage subsystem and present storage resources to host servers.

This is an intermediate course for individuals who are assessing or planning to deploy an IBM system Storage DS5000 storage subsystem.

You should have:

• Technical knowledge and experience with Open Systems servers and a Fibre Channel environment.

• Describe how to plan and configure the DS5000
• Create arrays and logical drives, and present them to the host servers using Storage Partitioning
• Configure the copy services for the DS5000, including FlashCopy, VolumeCopy, and Enhanced Remote Mirroring
• Configure a base SAN installation and zoning
• Perform basic problem determination and isolation tasks
